Family background
Albert Barnett was born in Loxwood to Benjamin Thomas Barnett and Annie Edith. Benjamin was a farm labourer who moved round the local area and settled in Petworth. After the war they were at 290 Horsham Road, Petworth. Albert had one sister, Emily Jane and 4 brothers, Samuel James, Basil Albert, Charles, and Benjamin Thomas. In 1911 Albert was a farm labourer, living at home in New Barn, Medbone, Petworth.
Military service
Gunner Barnett enlisted in Petworth and served in the Royal Field Artillery, which provided the Heavy artillery support to the front-line infantry.
Death and commemoration
Gunner Albert Barnett died of wounds on 3 August 1917 on the Western Front and was buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium, B11.
