Family background
Charles Harry Edwicker was the son of Henry and Charlotte Edwicker. Henry had various occupations including labourer, coachman and gardener. In 1911 he was a gardener living at 336 Grove Street, Petworth. Charles was the youngest of five sisters and three surviving brothers, the eldest Robert had died aged 21. Two of his brothers, Ernest and Arthur, served in the war and survived.
Military service
Charles enlisted in Chichester into the East Surrey Regiment.
Death and commemoration
Private Charles Harry Edwicker died of wounds on 14 October 1917 aged 19, possibly during the Battle of Passchendaele. He is buried in Dozinghem Military Cemetery and was awarded the British and Victory medals. He is also commemorated on the Tillington memorial.
