Family background
Charles Henry Wrixen was born at Westbourne, Sussex in about July 1897, the son of Charles Joseph and Katherine Wrixen who had married in Havant in 1895. Both parents were born in 1865: father in Sturminster and mother Katherine Aylwin Shorto in Deptford, Kent. He was baptised at West Grinstead, Sussex on 19 September 1897.
In 1901, the family was living at Tangmere, Sussex, where father was a greengrocer working at home on his own account. There were three children: Ivy (4), Charles Henry (3) and Marjorie (4 months).
Charles J Wrixen died in Midhurst, Sussex, in 1905, aged 40. At the 1911 census his widow was working as a laundress and living with her three children at 4 Ashfield Road, Midhurst.

Death and commemoration
Charles Henry Wrixen died of pulmonary tuberculosis in Ashfield Road, Midhurst, aged 18. His occupation was recorded on the death certificate as auctioneer’s clerk, discharged private Royal Sussex Regiment. His death was registered by his aunt C H Shorto, of Petersfield Road.
Charles H Wrixen is inscribed on Midhurst War Memorial and is listed on Memorial Panels in Midhurst Parish Church as Henry Wrixen.
Subsequent family history
Katherine Wrixen died on 31 July 1953, aged 87, in Midhurst. His sisters both died unmarried: Ivy in 1973, aged 77 in Chanctonbury, Sussex and Marjorie in 1979, aged 78, in Worthing, Sussex.
