Private Robert Henry Hamilton’s elder brother had already died possibly before he even signed up.

Family background

Robert Henry Hamilton was the son of Robert and Fanny Skinner. Robert was a gamekeeper and by 1911 he was working as a game keeper on the Petworth Park estate. The family lived at Adelaide Lodge Limbo,: Robert had an elder brother Ernest who also died in the war and two sisters, Ethel, and Gertrude. His father Robert had died by September 1918.

Military service

Private Robert Henry Hamilton enlisted in Chichester into the Gloucestershire Regiment.

Death and commemoration

Robert died on 28 August 1918 aged 19 during the advance in Flanders. He is buried in the Marpent Communal Cemetry and was awarded the British and Victory medals.
